Briar Chapel in Chapel Hill…Blended With Nature
Chapel Hill I hear you say, isn’t that a little bit off the beaten track from Clayton? It is certainly out of my normal stomping grounds of Clayton and Johnston County, but I wanted to see what Newland Communities, the developer of this magnificent community was doing.
Newland Communities Developing In Wendell
Newland Communities is the largest planned developer of planned residential and urban mixed use communities in the Unites States from coast to coast, so why wouldn’t I want to see what they have going on in Briar Chapel. I have know about Briar Chapel for a while since it was started a few years back and while working at Portofino in Clayton there were some similarities all be it on a much larger scale. My renewed interest in the the development came about when Newland Communities purchased a 1,160 acre tract of land, not far from where I live called Wendell Falls.

Wendell Falls when complete is planned for almost 3000 single family and multi family homes, over two million square feet of commercial retail space, open spaces, public parks and community ameneties to enhance the quality of live of the residents. Homes are expected to be started in the middle to late part of 2014 and ready for homeowners in 2015. Located just east of Raleigh right off Hwy 64/264 it is in a prime location for all points in the Triangle. I am very excited about the future of Wendell Falls having seen what Newland Communities is doing in Briar Chapel.

Upon entering the community you immediately know you are in a very well thought out neighborhood, the landscaping and curving driveway reminds you of a mountain road not a neighborhood. Railroad ties and bridges, huge boulders, sculptures in the forest, its a while before you even see a house.The emphasis on preserving open space of which there is 900 acres is evident. The pools and clubhouse are spectacular and the community ameneties include playgrounds, horseshoe pits, community gardens, walking trails, sidewalks, fire pits…you see where I’m going here. This is a community for people who want to be around other people and yet have a vast natural resource in their back yard to explore and escape whenever they want.
