International Food Festival in Clayton, NC
The cars were parked all along highway 70 in Clayton on Saturday for the Annual International Food Festival at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. There was a huge turnout on a beautiful early Fall day for this great festival in Clayton where traditional foods from almost 20 countries was available to try. You could be forgiven for thinking that a small town like Clayton might not have a diverse population but you’d be wrong judging by all the countries represented at St. Ann’s this weekend. Here is a list of the countries that had a sampling of the traditional foods you would find in the home country.
Traditional Food from all over the World
- Ireland (first of course)
- United States of America
- El Salvador
- Puerto Rico
All the food is prepared by the parishioners from St Ann Catholic Church and I know the Polish contingent was working hard Friday night getting everything ready as our friend and local Clayton businessman Mike Recser and his family were manning the Poland booth. I could have spent my Saturday eating my way around the world but it’s festival time here in beautiful North Carolina and there was a certain Bluegrass Festival in Raleigh we were headed to. I opted for the Polish food which consisted of polish sausage and caramelized onions, crispy potato pancakes topped with apple relish or sour cream, and it was delicious.
