Harvest Festival in Clayton, NC Starts Today
The Clayton Harvest And Music Festival starts today, Wednesday September 17th and runs through Sunday September 21st. Clayton Mayor Jody McLeod will kick off the festival this evening at 5 PM when he cuts the ribbon to the Food Lion Midway and opens the rides for this years festival.
Midway Rides, Clayton Idol To Get Things Started
Along with the rides which are open until 10 PM the Clayton Idol Final Competition runs from 6.30 PM to 8.00 PM on the PNC Main Stage at the Town Square. The Clayton Idol was once won by a certain Scotty McCreery before his American Idol win, if that’s any motivation for you to try out next year. If you are not blessed with a singing voice or other entertaining talent, have no fear as the Clayton Karaoke Contest kicks of at 8.30 PM until 10 PM. The entertainment continues on Thursday when popular North Carolina band Nantucket takes the PNC Main Stage at 7 PM. The Food Lion Midway is open from 5 PM until 10 PM on Thursday.
Free Movie Friday
Friday September 19th is Zaxby’s Movie Night Featuring Frozen, the movie starts at 7.30 PM, it’s free and is at the Town Square. Starting at 6 PM you can bring the blankets, lawn chairs and sit out under the stars with the family for a Fall treat that the kids will love. The Midway opens at 5 PM so you’ll have time to get in a few rides before the show.
Artist Village, Fitness Village
Saturday is the big day at the Clayton Harvest & Music Festival with a day long list of activities and entertainment food and rides. Main Street will be closed from Smith Street to O’Neill St with vendors and local artists, community groups and business’s lining the way showing off their skills and products. There are a number of places to check out along the way. The HTR parking lot off Lombard Street will have an Artist’s Village, sponsored by Wine and Design Clayton from 9 Am until 7 PM where local and not so local artists will be creating their works of art. Live arts and crafts demonstrations and a side walk chalk contest. There is a Fitness Village in the Clayton Mart parking lot featuring gyms, chiropractors, Cross-Fit with fitness and Martial Arts demonstrations.
Classic Car & Tractor Show, Music & Arts For Children
Memory Lane Car Club will have their Classic Car Show on Main Street at the Smith Rd. intersection where you’ll see classic cars loving restored by their owners and the prizes they have one. Some might even sell you one, if you’re in the market for a classic. This years show is bigger than ever and they’ve even invited a few tractors to attend. Wouldn’t be a Harvest Festival without tractors. At the Wagner House is the Creative Hands Kids Corner where on the front lawn the Neighborhood Academy of Music will provide musical activities for kids. The Art Room on Main will help children make and take art projects and Wishes and Wands will be on hand for Princess/ Super Hero worship. The PNC Main Stage is not going to be empty for the whole day with High School Bands, Dance Productions, Self Defense demo’s and a pet show all scheduled to be participating. Saturday night there is a Food Truck Rodeo from 7 PM- 10.30 PM at Fayetteville Street and Main Street and the music for that night is provided by the very popular North Tower Band

While you stroll up Main Street from the car show be sure and take a wander around the Community Garden which is a peaceful oasis that grows nutritious food for families in need. Stop in to a great furniture store called Circa where the owner Brian Shirley restores old pieces of beautiful furniture and also makes custom pieces from reclaimed tobacco barns that would complement any home. A little further along is the almost world famous Jones Cafe where some of the best Red Bright Leaf Hot Dogs can be found along with lots of other menu items. The restaurant now in the hands of the third generation was recently featured in Our State Magazine and recently reviewed by Bob Garner from UNC TV who declared the hot dogs …”Heaven” Across the road you will see Country Folks Creamery, stop in for some homemade ice cream.
Pageant on Sunday At Clayton Harvest Festival
The Clayton Harvest & Music festival winds down on Sunday but not before the Festival Pageant judging takes place which is held from 2-4 PM on the PNC Main Stage at the Town Square. This years pageant has categories for 1-18 months up to 18-21 year old for the ladies and 1-10 years for the young men. The Midway rides will be open from 1-5 PM.
Fresh Veggies On Sale As Well
The Clayton Farm and Community Market normally found on Horne Square on Saturdays in September will be further down Main Street in front of the Town Square. There are some terrific local farmers in our area providing fruits and vegetables, meats and sausages from farms no more than a few miles from Clayton. All natural local honey, cakes and breads have also been seen at the Farmers Market.
